So you know your team.

In an attempt to clear things out a bit this is what we expect from you for next Thursday:

First: a report on today’s studio. You’ve met the team members, you’ve presented the research report and now you will as a team formulate a reflection on what you’ve seen, heard, etc… This is preferably in written form. You could formulate critical questions, look for common stances, common information, or make a summary of all six presentations.

This should be digitally delivered.

Second: you make a work-plan for the next weeks (up until the intermediate review in week 8 ) in which you show how you will get this team forward.  Try to think as a team: different members have different qualities these are resources you can put to use on different track simultaneously.

This I what we will do:

We will deliver some basis documents for the site.

On Thursday we’ll tell you something on teamwork.

We’ll talk with each team about the work plan.

We completed our in-take conversations with all of you. You seem like an interesting but complex bunch. So time for us to do some hard work and look for the fittest teams…

On Monday the 5^th of October we’ll present 6 teams of 6 people (multi gender, multi discipline, multi ages, multi nationality,…).

We will also tell you something about teams…and how they operate…

Your part consists out of finishing the research report and handing that in on Monday. After you’ve met your team members you’ll present your research report in your team (not to the whole class).

This week-end you could look at ICE AGE 1 from the perspective Group vs Team…

Last Thursday we talked about: The Think Mobility Blog, The mixed media lecture and the research report that is expected of you by the fifth of October 2009.

About this report: let it be clear that it is a report or a Carnet de Bord, as it is called by mixed media. This means it is an account of your actions and reflections before, during and after the (re)search you are doing.

It can be digital or analogue but remind that you have to hand in something… and it should contain information in such a way that you can communicate this info (to us, to fellow students and later to the jury of the Schindler Award…)…

If you consider a design being composed of these three elements:

What: this is the design brief, the task (Urban Scheme, Access Route, Sport and Congress Hotel…)

Where: this is the site (Olympic grounds);

How: this is the broad area of research and investigation. It is what makes you design (the task) differently.  For the time being we disregard the site and the task… Then this How question is what you will focus on in the research report.

The next step is to refine or scope this broad field in to a smaller one: this can be for instance the intersection of your personality (personal interests,…) the field (architecture, universal design,…,sports,…) and Society (in this case the Schindler Award). Monday and Thursday of week 02 we’ll continue with the individual IN-TAKE conversations and you will continue to search. On Thursday Mira and Wouter from MM will be in the studio to follow up the Research Report/ Carnet De Bord.
